Parkview Mountain, Mountain summit in Rabbit Ears Range, Colorado, US
Parkview Mountain is a summit in the Rabbit Ears Range that divides two distinct valleys on either side. Its slopes create a natural boundary between the terrain to the north and south of the peak.
A fire lookout tower was built on the mountain in 1916 to spot forest fires from above. The structure remained in use for more than 3 decades before operations ended.
The mountain's geological composition includes quartz latite porphyry formations, with sedimentary rocks and volcanic-rock pebble conglomerates visible throughout specific sections.
The best access is from Willow Creek Pass via Colorado Route 125, where marked trails begin the ascent. Plan for variable weather conditions since the peak is exposed and conditions can change rapidly.
The southern slopes bear visible marks from a major wildfire in 2020 that reshaped the mountain surface. These burn marks create a distinctive pattern that hikers notice clearly during their ascent.
