Lulu City, human settlement in Colorado, United States of America
Lulu City is a ghost town in Grand County, Colorado, with remains of a late 19th-century mining settlement. The ruins consist of wooden and stone structures including old cabins, abandoned buildings, and remnants of mining operations scattered across the mountainous terrain.
The town was founded in 1879 after gold and silver ores were discovered, attracting roughly 500 prospectors within a short time. Once the mines ceased producing viable quantities of metal, residents departed rapidly, leaving behind only empty structures.
The town was named after a woman from the founding era and served as a social hub where miners gathered after work. The saloons such as Rustic and Tiger were central to community life, offering places where workers could relax and connect.
The site is accessible by road, allowing visitors to explore the ruins on their own at a leisurely pace. The terrain is rocky and mountainous, so come prepared with appropriate gear and allow enough time to walk through the scattered structures.
A notable figure was 'Squeaky Bob' Wheeler, a mine worker known for his distinctive high-pitched voice who later established a guest house called Phantom Valley Ranch. His reputation for hospitality and cooking made the ranch a popular destination for travelers and explorers.
