Miramont Castle

Miramont Castle is a four-story residence in Manitou Springs with over 30 rooms spanning about 14,000 square feet, combining nine different architectural styles such as Byzantine and Tudor. The building was later opened as a museum and displays the variety of Victorian architecture drawn from different cultures.

A French priest named Jean Baptist Francolon built this house in 1895, incorporating architectural elements inspired by his travels through various countries. The structure emerged from his vision of combining global influences within a single building.

The house now displays collections of Victorian objects, firefighting equipment, and military memorabilia managed by the Manitou Springs Historical Society. Visitors can walk through these exhibits and discover the everyday items from earlier times.

The house is open to visitors on most days of the week, with hours varying by season. It is wise to check exact visiting days and times in advance to avoid disappointed trips.

An underground tunnel once connected the building to a nearby sanitarium, where Sisters of Mercy delivered meals to patients with a serious lung disease. This hidden passage reveals the unusual role the house played in the community.
