Manitou Bathhouse, Historic bathhouse in Manitou Springs, Colorado.
The Manitou Bathhouse sits along Fountain Creek in Colorado and combines Mission and Spanish Revival architectural styles throughout its design. Today retail shops occupy the ground floor while residences fill the upper two levels of the building.
Construction occurred between 1920 and 1921, replacing an earlier bathhouse from 1882. It functioned as a mineral water spa offering therapeutic and social experiences.
The mineral springs at this location held sacred status for the Ute people, who established a rule preventing battles within a day's march of the area.
The building is freely accessible today since it houses shops and residences. Visitors can explore the interior and architectural details while walking through or shopping.
Three separate mineral springs named Shoshone, Navaho, and Manitou are incorporated within the complex, each with distinct mineral compositions. These springs formed the core of what the building was originally known for.
