Valley County, Administrative county in Central Idaho, United States
Valley County is an administrative county in central Idaho covering forested terrain and mountain slopes along the Payette River drainage. The landscape consists of mixed woodlands and river valleys that form part of Idaho's natural region.
The county was established in 1917 as an administrative division, named for the Long Valley of the North Fork Payette River. The area developed from mining activity into a region focused on timber harvesting and livestock raising.
The region transformed from a Native American territory to a mining district, then evolved into a center for logging, farming, and ranching activities.
Highway 55 provides road access through the area and connects to neighboring counties. The route passes through the valley and offers views of the natural surroundings along the way.
A dam completed in 1948 created a large reservoir that changed the water features of the valley. This reservoir permanently altered the landscape character of the northern section.
