Snowpatch Spire, Granite summit in Bugaboo Provincial Park, Canada.
Snowpatch Spire is a granite peak rising to 3,084 meters (10,135 feet) in the Purcell Mountains within Bugaboo Provincial Park. The mountain features steep rock faces and sharp pinnacles that make it a technically demanding climbing destination.
The peak was first summited in August 1940 by climbers Raffi Bedayan and Jack Arnold after remaining unconquered for decades. The mountain received its official name in 1962.
The mountain contains multiple established climbing routes, including Wildflowers, Kraus-McCarthy, Sunshine, and the Southeast Corner, each offering different technical challenges.
Access requires alpine experience and specialized climbing equipment for the steep granite routes. Visitors should prepare for extended climbing pitches and varying conditions that demand good physical fitness.
A permanent snow patch covers the northern face year-round and directly inspired the mountain's name. This feature remains visible even during warmer months and is the peak's defining characteristic.
