Mount Columbia, Summit in Canadian Rocky Mountains, Alberta

Mount Columbia rises to 3,747 meters at the northern edge of the Columbia Icefield, marking the highest elevation point in Alberta.

James Outram completed the first ascent of Mount Columbia in 1902, accompanied by guide Christian Kaufmann through the eastern glacier route.

The mountain received its name in 1898 from J. Norman Collie, referencing the Columbia River and the American ship Columbia Rediviva.

The east face route presents a non-technical glacier climb during summer months, with an approach distance of 19 kilometers from the base.

The mountain contains sedimentary rock layers from Precambrian to Jurassic periods, pushed eastward during the Laramide mountain formation process.
