Mount Unwin, Mountain summit in Jasper National Park, Canada
Mount Unwin is a mountain summit on the western edge of Maligne Lake within the Queen Elizabeth Range of the Canadian Rockies. The peak rises above the shoreline as a prominent feature of the landscape in this section of Jasper National Park.
The first recorded ascent took place in 1908 when guide Sidney Unwin led explorer Mary Schäffer to Maligne Lake during her expedition. The peak was later named after this guide and received official recognition from Canada's Geographical Names Board in 1947.
The Geographical Names Board of Canada officially recognized Mount Unwin in 1947, preserving the connection between the peak and its first documented climber.
The terrain is marked by snow and ice, particularly during winter months when temperatures drop well below freezing. Visitors should expect challenging conditions and changing weather, and bring appropriate gear for mountain exploration.
Mount Unwin ranks as the 82nd highest peak among 1,917 mountains in Alberta and holds the 31st position among 383 peaks in Jasper National Park.
