Columbia Icefield Skywalk, Glass observation platform in Jasper National Park, Canada
Columbia Icefield Skywalk is a glass-floored observation platform in Jasper National Park that extends high above Sunwapta Valley. The structure allows visitors to look down through transparent walkways and see the landscape and glacier-carved terrain beneath them.
The platform opened in 2014 as an initiative to increase visitor access to natural attractions in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The project expanded tourism offerings in the region and drew more people to experience the glaciated landscape.
Interpretive displays along the walkway present information about local geology, glaciers, and wildlife through educational stations and viewing areas.
Visitors can take a shuttle bus from the Glacier Discovery Centre to reach the platform, with regular service during operating hours. Warm clothing is recommended as the location is exposed to wind and cold temperatures year-round.
The glass surfaces can withstand extreme temperatures ranging from minus 40 to plus 40 degrees Celsius and support up to 400 people at the same time. This engineering achievement allows the platform to endure the harsh conditions of the mountain environment.
