Parque Arqueológico do Solstício, Archaeological park in Calçoene, Brazil.
The Solstice Archaeological Park comprises 127 granite blocks arranged in a circular pattern on a hilltop near the Rego Grande River. The stones span roughly 30 meters across and form a geometric configuration that stands directly on the landscape.
The stones were positioned by communities that lived in this region roughly one thousand to two thousand years ago. Archaeological findings such as pottery and burial vessels reveal that these people had developed settled societies here.
The stone arrangement shows deep knowledge about the sky that was made visible by people who lived here long before us. Today, visitors can see how the stones align to mark moments in the yearly cycle.
The site is situated about 7 kilometers from Calçoene and roughly 384 kilometers from Macapá, so reaching it requires local transportation. Bring sturdy shoes and plenty of water, as the hilltop location offers limited shade.
One of the granite blocks contains a circular opening that channels sunlight onto another stone during specific times of the year. This feature shows that the builders understood both the position of the sky and how light behaves with precision.
