Kintamani

Kintamani occupies the western edge of Mount Batur caldera at 1456 meters elevation, containing Lake Batur and 48 distinct villages within its boundaries.

The district emerged as one of the earliest kingdoms of Bali in the tenth century, with ancient stone tablets known as Rites of Peace dating back 1000 years.

Local residents maintain traditional Balinese Hindu practices across 19 Bali Aga villages, preserving ancestral agricultural methods and religious ceremonies throughout the district.

Visitors can reach Kintamani through regular bus services from Batubulan terminal or by private transport, with travel times averaging two hours from major Balinese cities.

The district holds the distinction of being the origin location of the Kintamani dog breed, recognized internationally as Indonesia's first native canine breed.
