The Bangli Regency extends over 526 square kilometers of mountainous terrain, reaching elevations of 1219 meters above sea level in central Bali.
Prior to 1907, Bangli functioned as one of the nine sovereign kingdoms of Bali, maintaining control over the central region of the island.
The Pura Kehen Temple, dating from the 11th century, represents the primary Hindu spiritual center of Bangli with its terraced architecture and stone carvings.
The regency divides into four administrative districts: Bangli, Susut, Tembuku, and Kintamani, each featuring distinct village communities and local markets.
Archaeological excavations in Manikliyu have revealed ancient burial systems and artifacts that indicate previously unknown settlement patterns in Bali.
