Penglipuran Village

Penglipuran Village, Traditional village in Bangli, Indonesia.

Penglipuran is a traditional village in Bangli with perfectly straight stone pathways and older houses topped with thatch roofs. Dense bamboo forests surround the whole settlement, forming a thick green boundary on all sides.

The village was established around 700 years ago when people from Bayung Gede in the Kintamani area moved here to settle. They founded this community under the rule of the Bangli Kingdom.

The village layout reflects values that emphasize harmony between people, nature, and spiritual life. You see this in how carefully the houses are arranged and how the surrounding forests are treated with respect.

The site is open daily and offers well-maintained paths for walking around. Wear comfortable shoes since the stone pathways can be uneven in places.

Every house follows the same building style with identical gates and structures, giving the whole place a strikingly unified appearance. This concept of sameness across an entire settlement is quite rare to find.
