Schwaz District

The Schwaz District spans 1,887 square kilometers across the lower Inn valley, Zillertal valley, and Achental valley in the Tyrolean Alps.

During the 15th and 16th centuries, the district became the center of European silver mining, employing over 10,000 miners in its underground network.

The district maintains 39 municipalities where residents participate in seasonal festivals featuring Tyrolean music, traditional costumes, and regional Alpine customs.

The district connects to major transportation routes through the Inn Valley, providing access to Germany, Italy, and other Austrian regions by road and rail.

The Achensee, the largest lake in Tyrol, sits within the district borders at an elevation of 929 meters among the Karwendel and Rofan mountain ranges.
