Brandenburger Haus is a mountain shelter situated at 3,277 meters elevation above the Gepatschferner glacier in the Kaunertal. The location offers views across the Tyrolean mountain ranges and the surrounding Alpine terrain.
The shelter was built by the Brandenburg Division of the German Alpine Club between 1904 and 1909. It was established as an important refuge for mountaineers exploring the region.
The mountain shelter serves as a meeting place for climbers from many countries who share their Alpine experiences. People gather here to exchange stories and knowledge about mountaineering and the surrounding peaks.
Reaching the shelter involves hiking for six to eight hours from the Kaunertal or Ötztal valley. Visitors should join a roped team or hire a mountain guide for safe passage.
The hut receives approximately eleven tonnes of supplies annually delivered by helicopter. The restaurant was previously run by a Michelin-starred chef, making this mountain shelter notable for its dining experience.
