Cockington Green Gardens, Miniature park in Gold Creek Village, Nicholls, Australia
Cockington Green Gardens is a miniature park in Gold Creek Village, Nicholls, in the Australian Capital Territory, displaying scale replicas of buildings from around 30 countries arranged across landscaped grounds. Flat, clearly marked paths connect all the structures, and a steam train runs a circuit around the whole site.
Doug and Brenda Sarah came up with the idea for this miniature park in 1972 and opened it to the public in November 1979. Over the following years the collection kept growing as new replicas were added from more and more countries.
The replicas on display come from many different parts of the world, including English village churches, Asian temples, and African landmarks, all grouped within a single walkable garden. Moving from one section to the next gives visitors the feeling of passing through many countries in a single afternoon.
The park is within Gold Creek Village and all paths are flat, making it easy to walk around at a relaxed pace. Shaded picnic areas, barbecue spots, and an on-site cafe are available for those who want to spend more time on the grounds.
The Waverley Dolls House is a dollhouse with 34 individually decorated rooms, each furnished by hand with pieces from different time periods. Many visitors walk past it before noticing what it is, and then spend far longer looking at it than they expected.
