Jeyranbatan reservoir, lake in Azerbaijan
Jeyranbatan reservoir is a large artificial lake in Azerbaijan near Baku that stores water for regional supply. The water surface stretches across a wide area fed mainly by the Samur-Absheron channel, with depths reaching around 30 meters in some places.
Construction of this reservoir began in the late 1950s to supply drinking water to Baku and surrounding cities as the region grew. Engineers influenced by British water management designs created a system that has provided steady water flow to the region for decades.
The reservoir is easy to reach from Baku and offers walking paths along the shores with several viewpoints. Swimming is not permitted as the water is reserved for drinking and regional supply purposes.
Large pumping stations positioned at different points along the reservoir control water distribution to surrounding cities. These industrial facilities remain visible reminders of how infrastructure quietly supports daily life in the region.
