Ajdarbey Mosque, Religious building in central Baku, Azerbaijan.
Ajdarbey Mosque is a house of worship in central Baku with a large vaulted prayer hall whose walls feature elaborate stone carvings. A tall minaret rises from the roof and defines the structure's skyline profile.
The mosque was commissioned in 1912 by Haji Ajdar bey Ashurbeyov and designed under architect Zivar bay Ahmadbayov. Construction extended until December 1913 when the building was completed.
The building displays characteristics of the Shirvan-Absheron school, visible in its local construction and decoration techniques. This regional building tradition shapes the overall appearance and details of the structure.
The building sits at a 45-degree angle to the street, which becomes noticeable when exploring the area. Visitors should be aware of regular prayer times and adjust their visit accordingly.
A stone carver named Salman Atayev created the intricate decorations and also worked on many other buildings across Baku during the same period. His craftsmanship shaped the appearance of this place and numerous other structures from that era.
