YARAT Contemporary Art Space, Contemporary art organization in Bayil District, Baku, Azerbaijan.
YARAT Contemporary Art Space is an art organization housed in a converted Soviet-era naval building in Baku with around 2000 square meters of exhibition space. The venue overlooks the Caspian Sea and offers rotating exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and film screenings throughout the year.
Founded by artist Aida Mahmudova in 2011, the organization opened to the public in 2015 within a former naval maintenance facility. This launch created new infrastructure for contemporary art across the Caucasus and Central Asia.
The space functions as a meeting point for contemporary artists from the region, bringing together local and international creative voices. Visitors encounter an active community of makers sharing their work and ideas within these walls.
The venue is located at National Flag Square with clear visibility from the seafront and various access points. Allow time to explore the current exhibition and check ahead for any special programs or events during your visit.
The name YARAT means 'create' in Azerbaijani, directly reflecting the organization's mission. The building itself once served as an active naval complex before being transformed into a cultural hub.
