Keane bridge, Road bridge in Sylhet, Bangladesh
The Keane Bridge extends across the Surma River with a length of 350 meters and features a steel construction with iron components.
Built in 1936 during British colonial rule, the bridge suffered substantial damage during the Bangladesh Liberation War and underwent repairs in 1977.
The bridge functions as the central gateway to Sylhet city and represents a meeting point for local residents crossing between northern and southern districts.
Pedestrians can access the bridge from multiple points in Sylhet, while vehicles remain restricted to ensure structural preservation of this crossing.
The bridge transformation from vehicle passage to pedestrian use makes it the longest dedicated footbridge in Bangladesh.
