Keane bridge

Keane bridge, Road bridge in Sylhet, Bangladesh

Keane Bridge is a steel crossing over the Surma River that connects different parts of Sylhet city. Its iron construction creates a functional passage across the waterway for people on foot.

The bridge was constructed in 1936 during British colonial rule and sustained major damage during Bangladesh's liberation conflict. Repairs were carried out afterward to restore it to working condition.

The bridge functions as a main gathering place for local residents crossing between different parts of Sylhet city. People use it daily as part of their regular movement through the area.

You can access the bridge from multiple locations around Sylhet city without difficulty. The crossing is straightforward and works well for people moving between the two sides of the river.

The structure was converted from carrying vehicles to serving pedestrians only and is now one of the longest dedicated footbridges in the country. This shift in purpose reflects how the bridge's role in the community has evolved.
