Madani Chattar, Islamic monument in Sylhet, Bangladesh
Madani Chattar is a monument with four ascending pillars arranged on a circular base, each resembling traditional mihrab designs. The structure features illuminated elements that become visible after dark, enhancing its presence in the urban landscape.
Construction began in 2017 and was completed by September 2018, with an official opening held in February 2019. This project marked a significant moment in recognizing the scholar's contributions to the region.
The monument honors Islamic scholar Hussain Ahmad Madani, whose influence shaped the religious life of this area through the adjacent mosque. The structure serves as a gathering point where visitors can reflect on the scholar's lasting role in the community.
The monument sits on Nayasarak Road directly across from Noyasharak Jame Mosque, making it easy to find in the city. It works well as a central meeting spot and is freely accessible to the public at any time.
The tallest pillar displays the Arabic word 'Allahu' and stands as the first commemorative structure of this kind ever built in Sylhet region. Its nighttime lighting makes it a particularly striking landmark.
