Kal Bhairab Temple, Hindu temple in Brahmanbaria District, Bangladesh.
Kal Bhairab Temple is a Hindu temple in Brahmanbaria District, Bangladesh, built around a large stone Shivalinga statue that stands at the center of the complex. Carved figures of Goddess Kali and Goddess Saraswati are placed nearby, completing the sculptural arrangement of the site.
The shrine dates to the 19th century, when sculptor Durgacharan Acharjee shaped the first statue from earth taken near the Titas river. Over time, the original figure was replaced with stone, and the site grew into the larger complex that stands today.
The temple draws Shaivite worshippers from across Bangladesh who gather for daily prayers and seasonal festivals. During major Hindu celebrations, the site fills with offerings, chanting, and crowds that reflect how central this place is to local religious life.
The temple is located in Medda area of Brahmanbaria District and can be reached by bus or train, then a short rickshaw ride to the site. Wearing modest clothing and following local customs on arrival will make the visit easier and more respectful.
Before its recent reconstruction, the Shivalinga statue was considered the largest of its kind in the world. The rebuilt version looks noticeably different from the original, making it a rare case of a religious sculpture that changed shape within living memory.
