Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya commissioned the construction of Ujjayanta Palace in 1899, completing the neoclassical structure in 1901 as the royal residence.
Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore named the palace, which now functions as a museum containing 22 galleries showcasing Northeast Indian heritage and royal artifacts.
The palace museum remains open to visitors throughout the year, featuring guided tours through the throne room, durbar hall, reception halls, and Chinese room.
Chinese artisans specifically traveled to Agartala to craft the ornate ceiling of the Chinese Room, creating distinct patterns within the palace.
