Tripura Sundari Temple, Hindu temple in Udaipur, India.
Tripura Sundari is a Hindu temple in Udaipur, India, with a square sanctum topped by a conical dome. Inside stand two representations of the deity, differing in size and filling the space with their presence.
Maharaja Dhanya Manikya Debbarma built the sanctuary in 1501, establishing one of the sacred sites where, according to belief, a part of the goddess Sati fell to earth. This connection made the place an important destination for pilgrims from many regions.
The temple takes its name from the goddess considered a protector of the region, worshipped daily by followers who bring prayers and offerings. Morning and evening draw families who express personal wishes before the deity, often bringing fresh flowers as part of their devotion.
The temple opens early in the morning and remains accessible until evening, with hours varying slightly by season. Buses from Agartala run regularly, making the journey straightforward for those traveling from the city.
Next to the temple lies Kalyan Sagar, a sacred lake home to large tortoises and other aquatic life. Visitors can often watch these calm residents from the shore as they walk along the water.
