Kasbeswari Kali Mata, Hindu temple in Sepahijala district, India.
Kasbeswari Kali Mata is a Hindu temple in Kasba village, Sepahijala district, set on a hilltop that overlooks Kamalasagar Lake. Inside, a sandstone sculpture depicting Dasabhuja Durga serves as the central object of worship, venerated here as Goddess Kali.
The original temple was built in the late 1400s by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, one of the rulers of the Tripuri kingdom. The structure was then expanded during the 1600s, taking on the form that largely survives today.
Devotees from both India and Bangladesh visit this temple throughout the year, making it a rare cross-border pilgrimage site. During religious festivals, the area around the lake fills with visitors who come to take part in traditional prayers and offerings.
The temple is about 27 kilometers from Agartala and can be visited throughout the day without restriction. After the visit, the path along Kamalasagar Lake just below the hill is worth walking.
Although the sculpture inside the temple depicts Dasabhuja Durga, it is worshipped by the local community as Goddess Kali, a distinction that visitors often miss. This local reinterpretation shows how the same image can carry a different meaning depending on the region.
