Rapid Action Battalion, Law enforcement agency in Dhaka, Bangladesh
The Rapid Action Battalion is a law enforcement agency in Dhaka, Bangladesh, that brings together soldiers from the army, navy, and air force with police officers and border guards. The organization operates across the country to handle organized crime and other security operations.
The agency was founded in January 2004 when the government responded to growing security challenges and the need for specialized anti-terrorism units. Since then, it has developed into one of the country's main tactical forces.
The battalion received the Independence Award in 2023, marking governmental recognition of their contributions to Bangladesh's national security framework.
The headquarters and five specialized units are located in the Kurmitola neighborhood of Dhaka, while additional battalions are distributed across the country. Visitors typically do not have public access to the facilities, as they are operational security sites.
The unit received the Independence Award in 2023, the highest civilian honor in Bangladesh for contributions to national security. Around 12,000 members from all military branches and police serve simultaneously in the organization.
