Motijheel Thana

Motijheel Thana is an administrative district in central Dhaka where banks, offices, and commercial buildings dominate the skyline and street level. A network of roads and public transit connects this sector to surrounding neighborhoods and forms part of the city's economic core.

This sector shifted from farmland to urban development during British colonial times. It later emerged as Bangladesh's financial center during the mid-20th century.

People of different faiths—Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians—share this commercial zone and gather for community events throughout the year. Their presence shapes the daily rhythm and social character of the neighborhood.

Public transportation runs through the area and makes it easy to reach different parts of the district. Keep in mind that heavy traffic characterizes weekday mornings and afternoons, so plan your visit accordingly.

The name comes from Bengali words meaning Pearl Lake, referring to a historical water body that once existed where office towers now stand. This original water feature has completely disappeared from the landscape.
