Bashundhara Residential Area, private suburb in Dhaka District, Dhaka Division, Bangladesh
Bashundhara Residential Area is a large planned neighborhood in eastern Dhaka organized into over nineteen blocks with a grid street pattern and wide main roads. The area has modern infrastructure including drainage systems, utilities, green spaces, and diverse housing types from individual plots to apartment buildings.
The area was founded in 1987 as the country's first major residential project of this kind, created to provide better housing for people moving to Dhaka after independence in 1971. Developers transformed swampy marshland into livable neighborhoods by raising ground levels and installing drainage systems to prevent flooding.
The neighborhood is well connected by public transport with buses, shuttle services, and metro stations currently under construction scheduled to open soon. Travel within the area is straightforward since roads are well maintained and most locations can be reached in less than ten minutes.
A Community Park that opened in 2025 features a lake, walking and cycling paths, and play areas, serving as a green retreat within the dense urban setting. This modern recreational space is rare in other parts of Dhaka where planned parks are uncommon.
