Luxembourg, Administrative province in southern Wallonia, Belgium
The province of Luxembourg stretches over 4,459 square kilometers of woodlands, plateaus, and valleys, making it the largest province in Belgium.
In 1839, the territory was established as a Belgian province after the partition of the former Grand Duchy of Luxembourg during the Belgian independence.
The Arelerland region near Arlon maintains a linguistic heritage where residents speak Luxembourgish, a German dialect, alongside French and Walloon languages.
The province contains five administrative districts centered around the cities of Arlon, Bastogne, Marche-en-Famenne, Neufchâteau, and Virton.
The Ardennes forest covers eighty percent of the province, creating a natural environment with a population density of only 66 inhabitants per square kilometer.
