Sahel Region, Administrative region in northern Burkina Faso.
The Sahel Region is an administrative area in northern Burkina Faso that spans across a broad plateau shaped by river systems. The Red Volta, Black Volta, and White Volta flow through this landscape and form the geographical foundation of the territory.
The area received its current administrative form in 2001 when Burkina Faso reorganized its system and designated Dori as the regional capital. This restructuring was part of a broader national reform to improve territorial management.
The people here speak several languages in daily life, including Fulfulde, Tamasheq, and Mooré alongside French. This linguistic variety shapes how communities interact and share their traditions.
The climate here is hot and dry, with dry season from October to May and rainfall mainly between June and September. Visitors should plan their trips outside the periods of intense heat and rain for the most comfortable experience.
This area borders two neighboring countries, Mali and Niger, and is administratively divided into four distinct provinces. This division into Oudalan, Séno, Soum, and Yagha creates internal diversity that is significant for how the region functions and identifies itself.
