Hauts-Bassins Region, Administrative region in western Burkina Faso.
Hauts-Bassins Region is an administrative area in western Burkina Faso made up of three provinces: Houet, Kénédougou, and Tuy. Bobo-Dioulasso serves as the main city and administrative center of these areas.
This administrative region was created in 2001 when Burkina Faso restructured its governing system. It became one of the main administrative areas that resulted from this major governance reform.
Different ethnic groups live throughout this region, practicing traditional crafts such as weaving, pottery, and woodwork. You can see and buy these handmade items in local markets where artisans display their daily work.
The region has a road network connecting major towns and making travel between provinces possible. An airport in Bobo-Dioulasso offers connections to other parts of the country and beyond.
This region is known for its strong agricultural production, growing large amounts of corn and cotton. The farms and fields shape the landscape and show how important farming is to the daily life of the people here.
