Sofia Province

Sofia Province is an administrative region in southwestern Bulgaria that stretches between mountain ranges to its north and south. It comprises 22 municipalities connected by road and rail networks throughout the area.

The province was established in 1999 as a separate administrative region distinct from Sofia City. This reorganization was part of a broader reshaping of Bulgaria's administrative structure at that time.

The region shows a mix of old churches and revival-period buildings scattered across its towns and villages. Walking through these places, you see how different architectural styles reflect the lives of people who lived here at different times.

The region is easy to reach with direct road and rail connections to nearby areas. Winter sports facilities in the mountains are accessible for visitors without much difficulty.

Below the surface lies one of Europe's largest gold deposits, which has shaped the region's economy for many years. This mineral wealth remains an important part of how people have built their lives here.
