Trakiets, Stausee in Bulgarien
Trakiets is a large reservoir in the Eastern Rhodope mountains above the village of Trakiets in the Haskovo region, contained by earthen embankments with a water surface of about 8.2 square kilometers. The lake holds approximately 114 million cubic meters of water and supplies surrounding areas with water for irrigation and industrial purposes.
The reservoir was constructed between 1959 and 1965 and brought into operation in 1967 to supply water to the region for agriculture and industry. Its creation represented a major undertaking that transformed farming possibilities for local communities and made water management more reliable in the area.
