Centre 200, Multi-purpose arena in Sydney, Canada
Centre 200 is a multi-purpose arena in downtown Sydney, Nova Scotia, built to host sports events, concerts, and trade shows under one roof. It connects directly to Casino Nova Scotia through an enclosed walkway, forming a shared complex along George Street.
The arena opened in 1987 as part of Sydney's bicentennial celebrations, with Bryan Adams performing at the opening night. Over the following decades it became the main gathering point for large events across Cape Breton Island.
Centre 200 is home to the Cape Breton Eagles, a junior hockey team that draws fans from across the region for its games. On game nights the building fills quickly and the energy from the crowd is noticeable from the moment you walk in.
The arena is on George Street in central Sydney, easy to find and close to other downtown landmarks. Parking is available nearby for those driving in, and the central location means buses from different parts of the city stop within walking distance.
In 1993 the Cape Breton Oilers won the AHL Calder Cup right here on home ice, a moment that local hockey fans still talk about today. It remains the only time a team based in Sydney has lifted a major professional hockey trophy.
