Crystal Casino, Casino in Fort Garry Hotel, Winnipeg, Canada
Crystal Casino was a gaming venue on the seventh floor of the Fort Garry Hotel at 222 Broadway in downtown Winnipeg. The facility offered slot machines and table games across its floor space.
This gaming venue opened in 1989 as North America's first continental-style casino and the first permanent government-owned gaming establishment in the Western Hemisphere. It made history as a pioneering gaming operation on the continent.
The Manitoba Lottery Foundation managed this gambling facility, which generated revenue to support provincial healthcare services and community programs.
The location was previously situated within a central hotel, making it easily accessible in downtown Winnipeg. Visitors could access the venue through the hotel building in the core business district.
Before closing in May 1997, Crystal Casino transferred its operations to two newer gaming centers: McPhillips Street Station and Regent Station.
