Stockhorn

Stockhorn is a mountain peak in Valais standing at about 3,500 meters (11,500 feet) and features steep rocky cliffs within the Swiss Alps. The summit area is marked by glaciers and high alpine terrain.

The peak drew attention from mountaineers during the 19th century, with its first recorded ascent occurring in 1858 under difficult conditions. This early climbing achievement established it as a recognized Alpine goal.

The Stockhornbiwak shelter sits at about 2,600 meters (8,500 feet) and serves as emergency accommodation for climbers crossing the surrounding glacier terrain. This basic hut is frequently used by mountaineers on multi-day expeditions.
