Rising to 3,192 meters, Pizzo Rotondo stands as the highest mountain in the Lepontine Alps between Nufenen Pass and Lukmanier Pass.
Viktor Haller completed the first documented ascent of Pizzo Rotondo on August 5, 1869, accompanied by guides Joseph Maria Trösch and Angelo Boffa.
The mountain forms part of the Gotthard Group and marks the meeting point of three major European river basins: Rhine, Rhône, and Po.
The northern slope contains the Gerengletscher glacier, while the southern side features the smaller Ghiacciaio del Pizzo Rotondo at Passo di Rotondo.
The mountain's granite composition provides excellent climbing conditions, with multiple routes leading to its prominent 749-meter-high summit.
