Coazhütte, Mountain hut in Grisons, Switzerland
Coazhütte is a mountain refuge in the Bernina Range at about 2,610 meters elevation that offers basic shelter and meals for climbers. The building contains dormitory-style sleeping areas and a kitchen that serves warm food to visitors.
The refuge was founded in 1964 by the Swiss Alpine Club to support the growing number of mountaineers accessing peaks in the Bernina area. Over time it became an important base for high-altitude expeditions in this region.
The hut serves as a meeting place where climbers from different language regions share their mountain experiences and knowledge. Visitors gather here to prepare for and recover from their alpine journeys together.
Access typically requires advance reservations since sleeping spaces are limited and meals need to be planned in advance. Visitors reach the hut on foot from nearby valley towns, and hikers should prepare for changing weather conditions at this elevation.
Glaciers flow directly in front of the building, offering a rare view of ice movement and glacier processes. From the hut's terrace visitors can observe these dynamic landscape changes happening directly before their eyes.
