Tsim Sha Tsui, Commercial district in Kowloon, Hong Kong.
Tsim Sha Tsui is a commercial district in Kowloon, located at the southern tip of the peninsula with a direct view across Victoria Harbour. The streets are densely built with shopping centers, hotels, and office towers that extend from the harbour edge to the adjoining residential areas.
The area developed from a small fishing settlement in the 1860s into an urban center during British colonial times. The construction of the railway line and ferry terminal in the early 20th century transformed the area into a major transport hub.
The district serves as a major meeting point for residents and tourists who walk along the waterfront promenade and watch the skyline of Hong Kong Island. Street musicians and photographers regularly gather at the harbour edge, where the view across to the opposite side is particularly clear.
The district is best explored on foot, as the main sights and shopping areas lie close together. Metro lines and the Star Ferry connect the area with Hong Kong Island and other parts of the city.
Every evening at 8 pm, more than 40 buildings on both sides of the harbour are illuminated for the Symphony of Lights, visible from the waterfront promenade. The show lasts around 13 minutes and is accompanied by music broadcast through speakers along the water.
