Meizhou

Meizhou is a prefecture-level city located in northeastern Guangdong, bordered by Fujian and Jiangxi provinces. The city functions as a regional administrative and commercial hub connecting surrounding towns and communities.

The area was established as Chengxiang during the Qin dynasty and renamed in the 10th century to its current name. Settlements here date back much further to Neolithic times, based on archaeological evidence.

The city serves as the heart of Hakka culture, where the Meixian dialect functions as the standard form of the Hakka language spoken by the community. Visitors can find traditional crafts and local practices throughout that reflect this linguistic and cultural identity.

A high-speed railway and airport link the city to major centers throughout Guangdong province, making it accessible for travelers. These connections allow visitors to reach the city easily and explore the surrounding region.

The region contains around 20,000 traditional Hakka Round Houses, which represent a remarkable architectural achievement. These distinctive ring-shaped dwellings showcase the building knowledge and way of life of the Hakka people.
