Meixian District

Meixian District is an administrative region in northeastern Guangdong Province that surrounds the central city of Meizhou. The area comprises multiple towns and rural communities organized into 19 administrative subdivisions.

This region emerged from historical county formations and underwent several name changes through different periods of Chinese rule. It acquired its current name in the early 1900s and has since functioned as a modern administrative unit.

Hakka people form the backbone of the community here, and their traditions shape daily life across the district. You can hear their dialect spoken everywhere and see their customs reflected in local practices.

The administrative center is located in Chengjiang Town and coordinates services and transportation links to other cities. The local airport provides connections to major centers, making it easier to reach the area from elsewhere.

The region holds substantial deposits of manganese and specialized clay minerals that have long been extracted for industry. Alongside mining, traditional farming and craft production remain important parts of the local economy.
