Dongguan is a major manufacturing hub in the Pearl River Delta region, spanning approximately 2,465 square kilometers with a population exceeding 10 million residents as of 2024.
Originally called Bao'an from AD 331 to AD 757, Dongguan became a county-level city in 1985 and achieved prefecture-level status in 1988, transforming from agricultural land into an industrial center.
