Nansha Bridge, Suspension bridge spanning the Pearl River in Guangdong Province, China.
This transportation structure measures approximately 12,891 meters in length and features two major suspension spans including the Dasha Waterway Bridge with a 1,200-meter main span and the Nizhou Waterway Bridge with a 1,688-meter main span, accommodating eight traffic lanes in each direction.
Construction began in July 2014 with major structural completion achieved by May 2018, and the bridge officially opened to traffic on April 2, 2019, after comprehensive testing that confirmed its structural safety and engineering standards.
The bridge carries the Guangzhou-Longchuan Expressway and serves as a critical infrastructure component in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development strategy, supporting regional economic integration and urban expansion across the Pearl River Delta.
The bridge connects Nansha District in Guangzhou with Shatian Town in Dongguan, allowing vehicles to travel at speeds up to 100 kilometers per hour, and on its opening day approximately 50,000 vehicles used the crossing, representing about 18 percent of total daily Pearl River estuary traffic.
The Nizhou Waterway Bridge holds the distinction of being China's largest steel box girder suspension bridge, with construction incorporating high-tensile steel wires with a strength of 1,960 megapascals and a record-breaking concrete pour of 18,000 square meters in a single operation on March 2, 2016.
