Great Mosque of Xi'an

The Great Mosque of Xi'an spans 13,000 square meters with four courtyards arranged along an east-west axis, featuring Chinese architectural elements throughout its structures.

Established in 742 during the Tang Dynasty, the mosque underwent major reconstructions during the Ming Dynasty and served as a steel factory during the Cultural Revolution.

The mosque combines Islamic religious requirements with traditional Chinese architecture, displaying Arabic calligraphy alongside Chinese imperial designs in its decorative elements.

The main prayer hall in the fourth courtyard accommodates 1,000 worshippers, while the two-story Xingxin Tower in the third courtyard functions as the calling tower.

The mosque contains more than 600 classical Chinese inscriptions in wood and stone, including works from Song Dynasty calligrapher Mi Fu.
