Zhengzhou Ferris Wheel, Giant Ferris wheel in Century Amusement Park, Zhengzhou, China
The Zhengzhou Ferris Wheel is a 120-meter observation wheel located in Century Amusement Park in Zhengzhou, China, with 48 climate-controlled cabins that each hold up to 8 people. The wheel turns slowly, taking around 30 minutes to complete one full rotation.
The wheel opened in 2003 as the tallest observation wheel in China at that time and the second tallest in the world, after the London Eye. It was one of the first large-scale projects of its kind in the country, showing how fast urban leisure infrastructure was growing.
The wheel drew families and young couples looking for a new kind of outing at a time when large urban parks were still rare in the region. Today it remains a gathering point for people from Zhengzhou who spend an evening in the park.
Clear days offer the widest views over the city from the top of the ride, so it is worth checking the weather before you go. Evening visits are also worth considering, as the wheel looks quite different once the lights come on after dark.
The spokes of the wheel are shaped like stars and lit up at night, creating a pattern in the sky that stands apart from the look of a typical observation wheel. This glowing outline can be spotted from different parts of the city once darkness falls.
