The Baling River Bridge is a reinforced concrete suspension structure spanning 7,339 feet (2,237 meters) with a main span of 3,570 feet (1,088 meters) crossing a mountain valley at 1,214 feet (370 meters) above the river.
Officially opened to traffic on December 23, 2009, the bridge reduced travel time across the valley from one hour to four minutes as part of the G60 Shanghai-Kunming Expressway connecting Guiyang and Kunming.
The main span measures 1,088 meters, incorporating the number eight which symbolizes prosperity in Chinese culture, reflecting traditional beliefs in numerology for major infrastructure projects throughout the country.
The bridge features a width of 80 feet (24.5 meters) for expressway traffic and includes wind blades inside its four-story-high stiffening truss to prevent oscillations during extreme weather conditions.
The structure houses the world's highest commercial bungee jumping platform and offers internal access for tourists to view its engineering components, combining transportation infrastructure with adventure sports and tourism activities.
