Huangguoshu Waterfall, Natural cascade in Huangguoshu, Guizhou Province, China
Huangguoshu Waterfall is a natural cascade in Huangguoshu, Guizhou Province, China, dropping 67 meters and spreading 101 meters across. The water of the Liuzhi River pours over grey limestone cliffs and forms a continuous white wall of foam and spray.
The cascade was once called White Water River Falls before being renamed after the trees. Chinese people knew it for centuries, but it became accessible to travelers only in the 20th century.
The yellow fruit trees that once covered the slopes gave the cascade its name. Today travelers from across China come to stand close to the spray and take photographs of the falling water.
Several platforms across the park let you see the cascade from different angles. The water flows strongest in spring and early summer, when mountain rain swells the river.
Behind the falling water lies a cave system that runs 134 meters. Visitors can walk through the Water Curtain Cave and look out at the wall of water through six window openings.
