The Chengdu Sports Centre is a multi-purpose stadium whose exterior is defined by a row of tall, inclined cream-colored concrete columns leaning outward from a base and supporting horizontal beams, with a flat dark blue roof band above. A dark steel lattice floodlight tower rises above the roofline, and the stadium stands on a paved open area.

The Chengdu Sports Centre opened on 28 December 1991 with a capacity of 39,225. It hosted six matches of the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup group stage. In 2013, Han Dynasty ruins were found beneath the stadium; after nine years of excavation, it reopened in 2023 as an archaeological and historic site.

The stadium's name is tied to its dual identity as the Chengdu Sports Centre and the Sichuan Provincial Sports Centre. Concerts have been part of its use alongside football: Avril Lavigne played here on 30 September 2008, the first Western artist to perform at the venue, and BigBang drew 30,000 fans on 14 August 2015.

The venue is easy to reach and provides adequate parking and outdoor areas for visitors before events. It is wise to arrive early during major events as entry lines can be busy and pathways may become crowded.
