The Sichuan Provincial Library is a public library in Qingyang District of Chengdu housed in a modern building that contains reading rooms and study spaces. The facility serves as a major knowledge center in Western China and provides resources for diverse users.
The library was founded in October 1912 near Shaocheng Park and experienced several relocations and name changes over the decades. It eventually settled at its current location near Tianfu Square.
The library houses the Zhang Daqian Documentation Centre, which gathers materials about the renowned Chinese painter and his artistic legacy. Visitors can explore here the connection between literature and visual arts within a cultural context that matters to the region.
Visitors aged 14 and above can apply for a Reader's Card at the service desk using a valid passport. This registration provides access to the various reading and study areas of the facility.
In October 2020, the facility displayed the Long Scroll of 100 Pictures of Giant Pandas Thangka, which connected literature with regional wildlife heritage. This exhibition highlighted the relationship between knowledge and nature that holds significance for local identity.
