Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, Science museum in Pudong, Shanghai, China
Shanghai Science and Technology Museum is a natural science museum in Pudong with 14 thematic exhibition halls spread across multiple floors. The halls cover robotics, space exploration, environmental studies and other fields, with each zone presenting its own displays and demonstrations.
The building opened in December 2001 and quickly gained importance as an educational site for the growing population of Shanghai. Shortly after opening, it hosted an APEC meeting where heads of state from the Asia-Pacific region gathered.
The name connects progress with social development, and school groups from across the city visit the interactive stations during weekdays. Families gather on weekends in the natural science areas, where children learn through hands-on experiments and adults explore physics or biology alongside them.
The museum sits near Century Park and is easily reached via Line 2 of the metro. Opening hours run from Tuesday to Sunday, with closure on Monday, and it is advisable to plan several hours for the visit.
Four specialized cinema halls screen scientific films daily in different formats, including IMAX 3D and IMAX Dome. Together they form one of the largest installations of this kind in Asia, offering thousands of screenings per year for visitors of all ages.
